CYO Preliminaries Results, 4/28/13
Congratulations again!
The performances today were outstanding.
Here are the results. OLA qualified to move on to the Finals in 9 events, so we're taking 9 kids to the Championships this Wednesday night.
We took 2 last year, so the OLA track team is getting better and better (obviously)!
Details about the meet will be sent tomorrow.
Our last practice is Monday after school for those of you moving on.
Wonderful job today to ALL.

CYO Regionals, Sunday, 4/21/13
Here's the meet entry list.
We have very few runners, so there might have to be some relay and other adjustments.
I am confident that all of the runners that are coming will do extremely well. You're a great group! See you Sunday.
ps- Again, if you are one of the top 8 runners in your race (not your heat) as times, you will go to Regionals, which is an honor!

3) Rules and Other Logistics:
1-1-1 Rule. One running event, one field event, and only one relay event per student (Note: Grades 3-4 athletes may run the shuttle hurdle relay in addition to their other one relay).
2. RUNNING EVENTS TAKE PRECEDENCE OVER FIELD EVENTS. If you have a running event – field event conflict, please make the running event your priority, then come back (as quickly as possible) to contest your field event.
4. ALL running and relay event athletes must be processed through the CLERK OF THE COURSE (south field area) and be escorted to the starting line in order to compete. ****Please listen to the announcements at the Clerk of the Course and watch the signs indicating what event is being clerked.
5. FIELD EVENTS A. Field event athletes MUST NOW REPORT TO THE FIELD EVENT CLERK located at the southwest corner of the track, just west of the running event clerk. Once there, competition flights (of 9-10 athletes, all of the same grade level) will be set up and contested. B. Athletes will be given several warm-up trials before being given two (2) final competition attempts for measurement. Athletes must stay with the flight of athletes they have been assigned to until the event is concluded and taken to the awards tent. Athletes will then be released to return to the stands or to compete in Running or Relay Event. 6. SHUTTLE HURDLE RACES

Knights Of Columbus Track Meet Schedule
March 2, 8:00-3pm
Parents:
Below is the entry sheet for your kids' races. The meet rules only allow for 2 running events, one field event and one relay. For the field events, see the note about checking in for field both in my entry spreadsheet and in the "Tips for the Meet" document. Running takes priority over field. Kids do not have to do field, but I signed most up just in case.

Welcome to 2013 OLA Track and Field
We’re all looking forward to an exciting OLA Spring Track 2013 season!
PRACTICES
We will begin holding track practices twice a week starting Feb 11. Practices will be on Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:30 (after school) to 4:45. Please go to the designated “study hall room” and do your homework until 3:30. I will pick up the kids from the room.
It’s important that you get the WAIVERS back to me or Mr. Salabaj ASAP so that we can get to Larkin Park to practice. It’ll be tough to practice on our OLA field with the other spring sports teams practicing there as well. This waiver will also cover carpooling to the track meets.
If two practices a week are not enough for some of you, we can talk about customizing a workout for you to do on your own.
** If your child wants to eat a healthy snack before practice, please pack one to be eaten at 3 (immediately after school and 30 mins before practice!!).
COMMUNICATION
I will regularly update the Track and Field link under Athletics, Spring Sports on the OLA site. All information/communication will be posted there. If you would like to receive communication via email, I can do this too. I will not give out physical paper.
SHIRTS and SHOES (at meets)
Track shirts are required at meets by CYO rules, but track shoes are optional. We have technical performance shirts with an OLA track logo this year.
Any light-weight shoe can be worn as long as it is not made to accept spikes. Spikes, or shoes made to take spikes, are illegal in the meets. You can wear your PE shorts or other shorts as part of the uniform.
For practices, running or athletic shoes and shorts and a t-shirt are great. Of course, wear warmer clothes if it’s cold, and keep a sweatshirt/pants with your backpack so you don’t get cold after working out if the day is on the chillier side.
WATER BOTTLES
Please bring your own reusable water bottle to practice. You can bring a sports drink if you’d like, but water is the best option. We’ll have to jog with these over to the Larkin Park, so keep them reasonable in size. I’ll look into having a water jug on hot days.
VOLUNTEERS
If anyone would like to assist in coaching, please let me or Mr. Salabaj know. With 3 groups of athletes (distance, sprinters and field athletes), and 6 grades, we can use all the help that we can get! You do not have to give a firm and full-season commitment, and you can come to any practice to help out. Also, you don’t need to know anything about track; we could just use positive encouragement and reinforcement!
MEETS
Here’s a list of upcoming meets:
· Saturday March 2 – Knights of Columbus Meet at Damien High School – 8am - 3pm.
· Friday and Saturday, March 22 to 23 – Mt. Sac Youth Days.
· Sunday April 14 - 12-6:30 pm – Raider Relays, hosted by St. Rita School at Bishop Amat High School.
· Saturday and Sunday late April (date TBD) - CYO District Meet - Noon – 6 pm at Damien High School
PARENT DRIVERS
We will have to provide our own transportation to the meets. In order to transport an athlete to an event, the driver must have a copy of his/her valid driver’s license and proof of insurance in the office. This must be done every season. The kids cannot go to the meets unless this is complete, so the sooner it’s done, the better. The coaches must keep track of this.
LOCAL EVENTS
There are plenty of college track meets in the area. Pomona/Pitzer and CMS events are great fun to attend and a wonderful learning experience for all. Check their websites for track meet times.
Please let me know of any concerns or any ideas that you have.
I look forward to a fun and rewarding track and field season at OLA this spring!
